US Open Day 7 Sunday June 19th

Firstly, Happy Fathers day to all of the dad’s out there, especially mine! Dad I wouldn’t be here without you, thank you for everything!  I wish you could have been here with me for the final round with me!

What a day!! I go from barely making the cut, not making many putts to birdying 3 out of my last 4 holes to shoot 68 in the final round of the US Open.  The feeling right now is in-describable.  This whole entire week has been in-describable.  I don’t think I have ever been treated as well as I was this week.  Certainly a big thank-you goes out to all the volunteers for their help; we had over 5,000 there!!!   This past week has been everything straight from a dream! Courtesy cars, buffet’s every day, your choice of range balls, immaculate course conditions, and the list goes on.  Definitely something I could get used to, but also a week I am going to use as a jump starter for the rest of my season.  I am taking a lot of confidence from this week.  To birdie 3 of my last 4 to make the cut on Friday afternoon/Saturday morning and to birdie 3 of my last 4 on Sunday including the only birdie recording on 18 is something special.  I was able to summon some of my best golf under some of the toughest conditions and that’s what this week has given me, the self belief that I belong on the PGA Tour and that I will get there.

I don’t know when that will be, it could be next year, it could be 4 years from now, but I will be there and I will consistently compete with the best players in the world.  The roar of the crowd when I snuck in my 40 footer on 18 sent chills down my spine and the walk along the bridge alongside the grandstands where everyone was on their feet cheering is right up there with accepting the Rivermead Cup at the Canadian Open last year.  This past week flew by, and it seems like yesterday I was arriving at Congressional to register.  Although it won’t be my last major championship, I will always remember the first!  I hope you enjoyed following my week at the US Open.  As always you can continue to follow me and my golfing on twitter @ahadwingolf, as well as on the Canadian tour at cantour.com.  Look forward to seeing you all at the Canadian Open at Shaugnessey Golf Club in July!! More details in my latest blog.

US Open Day 5/6 Friday June 17th/Saturday June 18th

These past couple days have been quite adventurous to say the least.  After not playing so well on Thursday I knew I would have to put together a good round on Friday to be playing on the weekend.  Again a very average putter showed up and I was left making the turn at 3 over for the day, 7 over for the tournament.  I figured about 4 over would be the cut, maybe 5 so I needed to get something going and quickly.  Nothing came until the 6th.  The USGA moved the tee’s up on the par 5 making it reachable for almost the whole field.  Naturally I went for it in a two and pulled it left into the trees.  I made a great recovery to about 40 feet on the green and calmly walked that putt in.  After just missing a birdie putt on 7 I birdied 8 from 12 feet seconds before they blew the horn for dangerous weather.  Because it was getting late it meant I would have to come back the next morning to finish off the 2nd round knowing I needed birdie to make the cut.

At 8:15am the horn blew to resume play and I had 1 hole to play and 1 birdie to make.  Tees were moved up on the par 5 but a drive in the rough forced a lay-up.  After a perfect lay-up to 98 yards I managed a wedge shot to 6inches and the pressure was gone! I had successfully birdied 3 out of my last 4 holes to sneak in on the cut line. I had enough time for a shower, some fruit and I was back to the putting green to hit a few before playing my 3rd round.  Because I was the last to finish I was first group off with Christo Greyling who I had played with the first 2 days.  I didn’t hit the ball quite as good as the first 2 days but made a couple more putts.  Highlight of the day was stuffing it to 6 feet on the 18th in front of the crowds and holing the putt to end on a high note! What a feeling it is playing in front of these crowds!! I can’t wait until tomorrow! I moved up into a tie for 54th and I am teeing off at 11am.  The goal for tomorrows round is to eliminate mistakes! No bogey’s is the objective and to get the putter rolling early.  Look out Rory!!!!

June 16th - US Open Recap Day 4

Well... Round 1 is in the books and if the weekend started tomorrow I would get to play! Today, given the situation, quite possibly was my best ball striking day of my life.  Starting on the very first hole I was in complete control of my swing, my ball and where it was going; except when I got on the greens.  I had great looks for birdie on 1,2,3,5,6,7,8, and was only able to capitalize once.  Then moving onto the back nine I had good looks at 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18 and was only able to capitalize once more.  Toss in a couple 3 putts and at the end of the day I signed for a 75.  Given the way I hit the ball today 75 was probably the highest I could have shot which gives me confidence going into the next few days.  I just need to keep my head up, stay focused and hole a few more putts and I will creep up the leader board.  This week has been a blast so far and I will continue to enjoy myself out there tomorrow.  It’s fun having the opportunity to play in front of the crowds and to test my game against this golf course.  I am ready to make a run up the leader board and give Rory someone to think about come Sunday!! More details in my latest blog.

June 15th - US Open Day 3

I feel like I am starting out every time with “another beautiful day here in Bethesda” but I can’t say much else! Great weather again, great crowds following the practice rounds, a course that is in great condition and a beautiful layout!  Today was a much lighter day with short game work in the morning, lunch, a range session and then 9 holes on the back to finish.  I had originally booked a 2some at 146 with Will Wilcox but we were paired up with Geoff Ogilvy and Alvaro Quiros after two of their foursome dropped out.  It was a lot of fun.  They were great guys to play with and it was helpful to play in front of a bunch of fans before beginning the tournament.  The fans here are nuts!! Anytime you get around them they are autograph seeking!! And they will not give up! Luckily I am not a big name yet and I can skip past most of them without getting in trouble! I don’t know how these guys do this on a regular basis! 9am tomorrow off the first tee... Game feels really good and I feel as if I am peaking with it at the right time.  I’ve got good distance control on the greens, short game has gotten better as the week has progressed and I’ve hit it well all week.  Now it’s time to stick to the game plan, make some birdies and control my nerves.  If I can manage my nerves I will have a great shot at playing well.  @ahadwingolf on twitter for updates throughout the day!!!

June 14th - US Open Recap for Day 2

Another fantastic day here in Bethesda!  I got out nice and early at 7:44 with Adam Long and Will Wilcox.  Will is a good friend that won on the Canadian Tour last year and is now moved his way up to the nationwide tour.  It was a good round and we all had fun.  Got to see the back 9 today and all I can say is WOW!!! This is where the tournament begins! Right off the start is a 200yard downhill par 3 with a shallow green and water sitting all in front of the green.  After surviving that hole it doesn’t get any easier with 11th being 490 with a creek up the right hand side.  Today was really great because we were playing in front of Dustin Johnson, Hunter Mahan, Jeff Overton and Phil Mickelson.  It was only Tuesday and it already had a tournament feel to it with the crowds! The finishing hole at Congressional is UNBELIEVABLE!! Wait till you see it on T.V.!  523yd downhill par 4 with water surrounding the green and the clubhouse framed beautifully in the background.  Whoever holds the trophy on Sunday will have some great photos!  The course is in good shape but I don’t think it’s where the USGA wants it to be just yet.  They had extremely hot weather the past few weeks and the rough hasn’t grown in like they have wanted.  It’s a little shorter and thinner than in previous opens is what I have been hearing.  The greens got faster today and I expect them to get firmer and faster as the week goes on.  I have heard rumours that the USGA wants to play them at 14 on the stimp. Not sure if some of these greens can handle that!!  I get a bit of a sleep in tomorrow before playing the back 9 again at 1:46 with Will again.  I will check in with you tomorrow night before the first round!

June 13th - US Open Recap for Day 1

What a great day to start on!  After a bit of a sleep in, and some hotel shuffling we finally arrived at the course around noon.  I registered, got all my credentials and was greeted by a brand new bag sitting in front of my locker thanks to Callaway!! Balls, gloves and hats were also waiting in my locker; nice touch!  After signing a few autographs, which never gets old by the way, I hit the range.  Worked on one key thing for about 30mins but I felt good about my swing.  Since food is provided to players and their guests for the week, I headed inside for lunch and then was right back out to the 1st tee where I played 9 holes with Tseng-Su Pan.  He’s an amateur attending the University of Washington next year.  The course was in great shape!  1st hole definitely lulls you into thinking the course is going to play easy, but the very next hole is a 233yard uphill par 3.  Going into the breeze today I had to 3wd!!! I haven’t done that in years! Welcome to the US Open I guess!!  With Brett on the bag it makes it a lot easier during practice rounds.  I get to just practice and he takes care of the slopes for me! What a guy!  I will leave it at that for tonight. Up early tomorrow morning for a 7:44 tee time with Will Wilcox, a player I met last year on the Canadian Tour and has since moved up to the Nationwide Tour.  Keep following me on twitter: @ahadwingolf as I will be updating that throughout the day!

Adam is pledging 100.00 for every birdie at Congressional and he is asking for your pledge as well. Every little bit counts. Please just print it off,  fill it in and fax it back into the office before Thursday first round. Also you can see Adam live on TSN at 5:00 EST or 2:00 our time from Congressional.

As I am sure alot of people know by now but I was one of 4 guys to qualify for the US Open from the Gold Mountain Sectional site.  I also have pulled out of this weeks Canadian Tour event in Kamloops to better prepare myself for next week!

June 8th, 2011

For some reason my updates always seem to start with wow, this is a much overdue update. Unfortunately there really hasnt been any big news to share with you all until now but I will bring you up to speed. In April I played in 2 Monday qualifiers for nationwide events. I missed the first by 2 shots and the 2nd by 4 shots. I had a lot of good things going I just wasnt able to go low enough in the one round to get through. I then headed over to Mexico for the 3 tournament on the Canadian Tour schedule. After a tough start I battled in the 2nd round to make the cut and just wasnt able to get anything going on the weekend.

A couple average rounds and I ended up in 26th place. I was never able to get a feel for the Bermuda greens! They can be very tricky if you are used to playing on them! After Mexico I returned back home to Abbotsford where I will be travelling in and out of for the summer. Besides play-off hockey there wasnt much going on here until last week when the Canadian Tour kicked off its Canadian swing in Victoria. This is a great event every year and I was excited to get back to Uplands to move 1 spot higher this year! Unfortunately my inconsistent year continued and it was another missed cut. Some bad shots, combined with a few missed putts and I was on the ferry back home on Friday afternoon. I didnt have much time to sulk about it though and after a quick tune-up from coach Brett Saunders and a chat with Scott Rodgers, I was back on the road to Bremerton for US Open sectional qualifying. Maybe that missed cut was a blessing in disguise because I put together rounds of 68-71 finishing tied for 2nd with fellow Canadian Wes Heffernan and we both are off to the US Open!! What a turn-around!! This just goes to show you why this game might be the stupidest of them all! Needless to say I am very excited to play golfs toughest test and to have the opportunity to prove myself on golfs biggest stage! I will be home until Sunday when Ill leave for Bethesda, MD in hopes of bringing another major back to Canadian soil!!

I was supposed to be playing this weeks Canadian Tour event in Kamloops and was there Tuesday playing in the pro-am, but after much debate and looking at travel schedules I decided to WD from the event to focus on next week. As a player you want to be as prepared as you can be, and even more prepared when an opportunity like this comes your way. I felt as though playing the Canadian Tour event this week would not have given me the best opportunity to prepare for the Open like I should be. It was a tough decision, I wanted to play, but in the end I had to do what is best for my game.

Stay tuned to the website all week as I will be posting daily updates from Bethesda! Also, you can follow me on twitter: @ahadwingolf.. I update that more frequently.

Hello Everyone!!

This is a long overdue update!  Last time I had checked in I was coming off a missed cut in Medellin before heading over to Barranquilla for the season opening Canadian Tour event.  Once again I came up one short of playing on the weekend.  It was a very windy week on the coastline in Barranquilla.  With average wind speeds of 35mph I wasn't able to put together 2 rounds and my birdie on the 36th hole wasn't enough.

The following week was the 2nd Canadian Tour event in Bogota and coming off two missed cuts I knew something was up.  I took some video on the range on tuesday and noticed a few set-up problems. After working on those changes tuesday and wednesday, what a difference!! Wow! I went out and started hitting pure golf shots, giving myself lots of looks for birdie.  Making very little mistakes.  Ball striking and putting came together in a 3rd round 62 which vaulted me 6 shots up on the field entering the final round.  Despite the large seperation I was nervous beginning the day and through 6 holes the lead was down to 3.  But that was the closest I would let it get to and I picked up my game.  I birdied 7 and 8 to get to 1under for the day.  Then played really solid golf on the back, birdeing the par 5's and not letting the gap get any closer.  In the end I finished with a 69 and a 6 shot victory.  It was a great feeling getting my second victory so quickly following my win at Desert Dunes last november.

I will be in Phoenix the month of April as well as attempting 2 Nationwide Tour Monday qualifying events.  We have one more Canadian Tour event in Mexico the first week of mexico and then I will be returning to Vancouver.  I have a VGT Pro-am scheduled for the 18th at Morgan Creek while at home.

February 21, 2011

Hello everyone,

Its hard to believe that I have been in South Africa for 9 days already! It seems like just yesterday that I was boarding SA 208 across the Atlantic. I am writing from my Kulula Air flight on my way to back to Johannesburg to compete this week in the Telkom PGA Championship and the Country Club of Johannesburg. This past week at the Dimension Data Pro-Am held at the Fancourt Estates was a lot of fun and I was able to play with and meet some great people. Although my amateur partner was not the best golfer, we both had a lot of fun the first 3 days and I hope he enjoyed his time with me. This week can be summarized in one word: average. I had moments of brilliance, but that was countered with times when it seemed I was a 20 handicap. I never seemed to get things rolling. I hit the ball so well the first couple days I just could make any putts, and then struggled with ball striking but my putting improved. I didnt have all aspects of the game firing on all cylinders this week. I am pleased with the way I finished and the way I continued to battle. I had an INCREDIBLE up and down on the 18th on Sunday to finish my week off with a birdie on the par 5. That kept the fire going and Im looking to improve upon my 13th place finish this week. Because of an early Sunday morning tee time I was finally able to get out of George and go exploring a bit. I jumped in my rental and headed down the freeway to MusselBay. I will have some of the pictures and videos I took posted shortly. Thats all for now! I will update everyone later on this week from Joburg! Be sure to follow me on Twitter (@ahadwingolf) as I update that after each round!

February 17,2011

Hello all,

This is my first update from South Africa!! I am slowly adjusting to life over here. Driving on the left side of the road turns out to not be as scary as I first thought. The hardest part is looking left to check your mirrors. Its amazing how different something can seem when youve done it one way for so many years! I am slowly adjusting to the time change. Getting tired in the early afternoons and not being able to fall asleep until 2am has been common thus far. With only 11 channels on my hotel T.V I have been watching a lot of movies! But with complimentary wireless I shouldnt complain! Upon arriving in George its been practice rounds each day. The tournament is a Pro-Am format exactly like the ATT Pebble Beach. I am paired with an amateur for 3 rounds on each of the golf courses and then there is a cut. All the golf courses are in great shape, but the Links course here at Fancourt is very impressive! It hosted the 2003 Presidents Cup and I can see why. It is a traditional Links type golf course with pot bunkers waiting for stray shots. I am looking forward to the week and what it brings. Meeting new people, experiencing new things! Thats it for now, I will check back in with everyone once the tournament is over! You can follow my progress at sunshinetour.com under the Dimension Data Pro-Am!

Blog Entry #7 July 26/2010

:) :) :) - more to come. Thank you to everyone for your over-whelming support this past week. As mentioned I am on cloud 9 and when I come down a bit, i will update this page.

Blog Entry #6 April 19/2010

I am writing to you all from Phoenix International Airport waiting for my flight to Puerto Vallarta to board. I feel as if this trip is the actual beginning to my professional career. I know that I have been professional for almost a year now, but up until this point I havent travelled to play. The Vancouver Golf Tour and the Gateway Tour were both centrally located and staying in my own bed while driving to each event did feel quite right. I am excited for the opportunities that are awaiting me on the Canadian Tour this year. Despite having much fewer events then previous years, the Canadian Tour is going to be an excellent proving ground and an even better learning experience for me as a move forward with my career. Between the travel, practice rounds and having a different caddy each week, each of these will teach valuable skills moving forward.

I am very excited for this week! I will be sharing a villa with some fellow golfers I have met along the way. Unfortunately I am here for business so the scenery and atmosphere will have to take a back seat to golf! Everyone can follow my progress at http://www.cantour.com/leagues/cantour_leaderboard4.cfm?clientid=3776&leagueid=14112&seasonnum=2010 Wish me luck!

Blog Update#5 March 29/2010

Whew! What a blur these past couple months of been. I have to say that in these past couple months I have played more events than ever before. It certainly has been a learning experience and a building block to what life on tour will be like.

Way back on February 2nd after coach Saunders had left, the Gateway Tour begin a 3 week-in-a-row stretch beginning at the Anthem Country Clubs Ironwood course. I will spare you all the details bud it didnt end well for me. The time that was spent working on my game while Brett was in Phoenix had not taken affect and I was on bad terms mentally. I was struggling to stay focused through an entire round and it showed in my scores. This led to 2 missed cuts in 3 weeks and searching for some answers. Luckily Dad was flying in during our next week off and we were able to change my thought process.

Dad and I had a great visit while he was down here. It was nice to have another set of eyes watching my game while I was struggling so much. We had quite a few talks about my game and how I needed to approach the last 4 weeks of the Gateway Tour. After that week off, I felt refreshed and ready to play some better golf.

The results speak for themselves. I still have yet to put together 3 solid rounds in succession but its getting closer and with 7 out of my last 12 rounds in the 60s I was able to post some solid finishes as well as making all 4 of the past cuts. I am hoping to continue my good play this week at Canadian Tour Q-School being held at Carlton Oaks Country Club just outside of San Diego. After a couple practice rounds and some good work on the greens I feel ready to earn status on the Canadian Tour for this summer. You can follow my progress this week at www.cantour.com under the California Winter Qualifying School tab on the right hand side of the page. The course has proven to be difficult over the past few years and I am looking forward to the challenge a different type of golf than desert golf for once!!

Blog Entry #4 A week off!

Not that I have a week off from competition I figured it was time to update everyone on my progress so far this year. Starting the first week of 2010, the Gateway Tour began with its first event at Anthem Country Club. We had a great course that was in excellent condition to play as well as perfect weather all week. The week can be summed up by lacklustre ball striking and a putter that was red hot. I was fighting a two-way miss all week but thankfully my putting never strayed. I was still hitting it really well off the tee, so I avoided the desert on most occasions. It was simply a tournament of limiting my mistakes and taking advantage of good shots when they came.

The second week we played at Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia. Again we had a great course set-up and great weather all week. The course seemed to play a bit more difficult then Anthem but there were still plenty of opportunities available. I started hitting the ball better at this event. I was able to hit a few more greens and I got it closer to the pin then the previous week. Unfortunately my putter wasnt quite as good and I wasnt able to convert when I needed to. I was still in good position through 2 rounds and after a front nine of 32 I was sitting at 9under for the tournament. The wind came up on the back nine and because my ball striking was already shaky, I had a hard time controlling my golf ball. A couple loose shots and 9 holes later I closed with a 5over 41 and a round of 73. It was extremely disappointing after starting as well as I did on the front, but all I can do is learn to not make the same mistakes the next time I am in that position.

After a few days of practice I was back at it from the 19-21 at the Raven Golf Club at Verrardo. The course once again was in great shape however the weather this week would certainly play a factor. Luckily I was placed in the morning draw and had perfect conditions to play in. Again, my ball striking improved slightly and I was able to take advantage of good solid shots into the greens. A solid 69 and I was sitting 3 back after the morning wave. Because a nasty western storm starting blowing through after I had finished, nobody in the afternoon was able to go any lower and I started the 2nd round 3 back. Despite poor weather reports the 2nd round was played under beautiful blue skies. Although there was little wind the course seemed to play tougher for the field. I played well once again and was 3under with 3holes to play. Again a loose shot on 16 led to an untimely double and I finished the round 1under, 4under for the tournament. Thankfully I was able to hold my position at 10th despite thinking I had fallen close to the cut line. Later that evening another storm system came in and sat on top of phoenix similar to those of the Pacific Northwest. Because of the rain, we werent able to even start the 3rd ran and the tournament was made official after 2 rounds.

I am looking forward to this upcoming week off as my golf coach Brett Saunders is coming down for some much needed work. Since Junior year of university my ball striking has the consistency it had earlier in my golfing career. Im excited to spend some quality time with him and get my swing ready for the next 3 weeks of the Gateway Tour.

Blog Update #3 A Brand New Year

Now that I am settled back in Phoenix I thought it was time I updated my supporters on my progress as well as my opportunities upcoming. While I was waiting to continue with PGA Tour Qualifying School, I was able to stay competitive by playing on the All-American Tour. I played in 4 events, winning once and finishing in the top-5 2 other times. Right before heading home for the holidays I was able to earn my membership entry into the Gateway Tours Winter Series with rounds of 69 and 67. It was an awesome way to end my year as well as a great way to begin this 2010 year with the membership being paid. (Membership is worth 14,000) Im looking forward to playing the Gateway Tour for the first 3 months of the year, gaining great competitive experience as well as having the ability to earn some good money to start of the year. As well as competing on the Gateway Tour, I am preparing for Canadian Tour Qualifying School which begins at the end of March. Playing on the Canadian Tour this summer is certainly a goal of mine. With all of the travel involved it will be another aspect of the game the Gateway Tour cant offer, and will provide another opportunity for me to test my skills against some of the best players in the world. The Gateway Tour begins tomorrow and runs through the end of March. I will continue to update my blog as the season continues, but for more update scores, visit gatewaytour.com and the current event will be shown on the home page. I appreciate everyones support! I hope you continue to come back to the website for updates!

Blog Entry #2 October Recap

Welcome back!! Now that my website is up and running, I'm hoping to be updating you about once a month during the off-season since there aren't a lot of tournaments going on. Of course the one big adventure that is in process is PGA Tour Qschool.

On September 30 I said good-bye to my parents and my native homeland and despite quite a hassle at the border I safely made it across into the land of the free and arrived down into Phoenix a few days later. I have to thank my brother for accompanying me and the journey; certainly made the drive a lot easier, although I did do all of the driving! I had hardly any time before I was travelling again. Because the golf course I am playing out of down here(Raven at South Mountain) was closed from the 5th-18th for over seeding, I stopped in Louisville before heading to Port Saint Lucie for 1st stage of Qualifying school.

Getting to Florida about a week early proved to be very successful as it gave me time to get used to a new grass. Bermuda can be a tricky animal sometimes and those extra few days allowed to me adjust to different lies I might see while qualifying. It was a great couple weeks. It was good to see my old teammate again as he graciously opened up his house to me. A big thanks to Daryl, his mom Barbara and his brother Devin. Also, thanks to Derek for allowing me to use his bed while there! Much better than the couch.

What made the week even better was that I played some fantastic golf and qualified myself into 2nd stage of Q-School. The first round was a very solid round, hitting 17 greens just not making a ton of putts on the greens. The next 2 round were characterized by some average ball-striking but a lot of grinding to keep me in the hunt. Everything came together in the final round as I put together a bogey free 67 to finish at 12under for the week. Overall I was very pleased with how I played however I know that it only gets more difficult from here and if I am going to continue to 3rd stage I am going to have to raise my game to another level.

Now back in Phoenix after a great trip to Florida, I'm looking forward to the opportunities that this area has to offer in regards to tournaments. It seems like there is a new tournament every week. I have been selected to Oak Valley in Beaumont, CA for 2nd stage. With practice round beginning on the 16, I will be leaving a few days before that in order to better prepare.

I am currently in a tournament. A new tour has taken off in the area called the All-American Tour and you can find a link to the website under links. After rounds of 72, 65 I am currently 5th with tomorrows round to play. Wish me luck!!! I am also going to be playing next week, the 10th-12th, at the Foothills Golf Club. You can follow my progress from their website. Thanks for visiting!! Keep coming back for more updates!!

Blog Entry #1 Welcome to my site!!

I am very pleased to finally have my site up and running and I can not thank Ross Marrington and his guys at www.bcgolfguide.com for helping me with the design!! With the site now active, I hope you visit regularly for updates! I will do my best to keep it as up-to-date as possible in regards to the tournaments I'm playing in, as well as results from past tournaments.
